WAR WIZARD tears up The Dirt Track in Charlotte
August 19, 2009
War Wizard Racing headed to the annual Back to School Monster Truck Bash (aka Monster Truck Challenge) in Charlotte, North Carolina for one night of high octane excitement at The Dirt Track a part of Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Racing started out with qualifying on the unique never before seen course consisting of an over/under ramp where each monster truck had to leap over a huge 50 foot gap.
Every team did well in qualifying, and that was no exception for Randy Moore. Randy qualified 4th out of 12 monster trucks.
Round-1 of racing action War Wizard was paired against Dan Patrick in Samson. Randy knocked out Patrick, advancing into Round-2 against Jim Koehler in Avenger. On one of the final turns Randy Moore powered into it a little too much, spinning out and giving Koehler a freebie.
What fans described as the "most amazing freestyle" of the night, wasn't good enough for the judges in Charlotte as Randy put on one of his best performances in his carrier. Huge slap wheelies, lots of speed, massive air, and total carnage sent him quickly into first place. A huge wheelie, followed by cross threading a set of crush cars put Randy on his lid and putting him into first place. He would later be knocked out by Mike Hawkins who flipped over, landed on all four wheels, and continued freestyling.
Several crew members were unable to help Randy in the shop after the event. Leading to two days of exhausting work to replace the entire War Wizard body versus repair, fix the rear steering which was heavily damaged, and fix odds and ends in the rear of the truck that also sustained damage. By Wednesday morning the team was off to the Maryland State Fair in Timonium, Maryland, and will be making a stop in Cicero, Illinois on August 22nd and 23rd.
